CLACTON Golf Club's ladies' Harris Bowl team travelled to Basildon.

It was their first league match of the year and the team of captain Sonja Strutt, Denise Pink, Faye Trigg, Angela Barratt and Fiona Cope won a close match 3-2.

Two of the matches went to the 19th hole.

Clacton's next match is on June 29, at home to The Essex.

Elsewhere, Faye Trigg and Denise Pink won five and four in their Munro foursomes second-round match against Stableford Abbotts.

They now meet either Benton Hall or Garons Park in the next round, on a neutral course, on June 12.

Trigg also won her gold match two and one.

Sandy Cocker won the spring eclectic with a tremendous score of 57 (five over par).

The runner-up was Denise Pink, with 60.13.

Clacton's Youth Shield team played at home to Stoke-by-Nayland and enjoyed a brilliant 3-2 victory.

The team play again this weekend, away at Five Lakes.

Clacton staged their men’s May Medal competition, with over 130 competitors.

Brady Diplock won division one, with a nett score of 67.

The runner-up on countback was David Reid, also with nett 67.

In third, with nett 68, was Tom Heffer.

Division two was won by John Garrad, with a fantastic nett 66.

The runner-up was Steve Page, with nett 67, and in third, on countback, was Mick Pickess.

Seniors vice-captain Alfie Smith welcomed Stoke-by-Nayland for the return leg of the clubs' 2017 annual match. Clacton won 5½-2½.

The seniors also played away at Gosfield Lake and had a tremendous 4½-3½ victory.
