FC CLACTON signed off with a victory in their final home match of the Thurlow Nunn League season.

Despite having their relegation fate sealed the previous Monday, after losing 3-2 to Wivenhoe Town, the Seasiders stormed to a 5-0 success against Godmanchester Rovers at the Rush Green Bowl.

Jake Clowsley opened the scoring by slotting home just past the half-hour mark.

Kevin Coyle then scored four goals to secure the club's biggest win of the season.

His first came after a pinpoint long-range pass from Tommy Austin and the second was a 20-yard free-kick, to make the half-time score 3-0.

Coyle then completed his hat-trick two minutes into the second period before winning and converting a penalty in injury time at the end of the match.

It was the first time Clacton have scored five goals at home in over two and a half years, since a 5-1 win over Diss Town at the Bowl back on September 13, 2014.

Aaron Condon scored a hat-trick on that occasion.

The scene is now intriguingly set ahead of Saturday's final match of the season, at Swaffham Town.

Clacton's weekend victory took them off the bottom of the table and back above the Pedlars, who lost 2-0 at Long Melford.

Kieron Shelley's side will now hope to avoid defeat at the weekend to ensure they do not finish in the wooden spoon position.

Meanwhile, Clacton's under-18s are due to end their Thurlow Nunn Youth League south division campaign tomorrow night with a trip to Coggeshall Town.
