CLACTON Golf Club lady captain Di Kedge welcomed Basildon Golf Club for an Essex Ladies' Golf Union Bronze Shield match.

The Seasiders' team was led by team captain Chris Crossfield.

She was joined by Pat Messenger, Jennie Corbyn, club captain Di Kedge, Gilly Cullen, Kathy Sinnott and Sue Gurry.

Everyone played well to record an outstanding six matches to one victory.

Clacton's junior section played for the June Rodwell Trophy.

The winner was Liam Leech, with an excellent 39 points.

In second place was Harvey Bell, with 36, and in third was Katy Yates, with 34.

Clacton's men played their April Medal.

The winner of division one, for handicaps of 12 and below, was Jake Wells, returning a good score of 73-6-67.

In second place was Matt Baker, with 70-1-69, on countback from third-placed Simon Smith, with 77-8-69.

In division two, for handicaps of 13 and above, the winner was Gary Harms with an excellent score of 80-15-65.

In second place was Bob Davidson, with 81-15-66, and in third was Simon Thomas, with 86-19-67.

On Monday morning, 78 senior members set forth to play the April Medal.

The winner was Peter Stephens, with 92-27-65, and in second place, playing great golf, was Ken Schofield, with 85-18-67.

In third place was Bill Austin, with 93-25-68.

Playing in the Essex Golf Union's Thornton Cup first round, Clacton travelled to East Herts Golf Club.

After a tight match, Clacton lost by the narrow margin of eight matches to seven.

Clacton will now play in the Thornton Cup Plate and in the first round they have a bye.

In the Essex Seniors Team Championship, Clacton travelled to Wollerston Manor Golf Club.

Despite some good performances, they lost by seven matches to four.
