MILLWALL 48
CLACTON 28
Essex League One Premiership
IN their final league fixture of the season, Clacton had to play second-best to Millwall and succumbed to their first defeat in Essex One Premiership.
It meant they slipped down one place in the table and so will finish in fourth place.
The Seasiders went into the game in the knowledge that Maldon had already been handed a five-point win after Billericay cried off again.
Unfortunately, Millwall are a difficult side to beat on their own patch on the Isle of Dogs and all Clacton could come home with was a four-try bonus point.
Jon Vine (two), James Kelley and Elliott Shuttleworth were the four try-scorers, with Shuttleworth converting all of them.
Nevertheless, with the leagues being restructured for next season, and at least half-a-dozen Essex clubs required for the revamped London Three, it looks as if Clacton will be promoted up and so accompany Braintree, Canvey Island and Maldon into the new division.
The Clacton club have no fixtures over the coming Easter weekend and the final match of the 2016/17 season is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 when the Kestrels take on Ipswich at Vista Road.
