THERE was an impressive turnout at Frinton Golf Club’s AGM on Saturday.

Club members met to elect new captains, general committee members and honorary officers.

The new club captain is David Joshua, who has served the club in many capacities over the years.

Simon Martin-Redman was voted in as men’s vice-captain.

Marilyn Clarke is the new ladies' captain, with Margaret Dean as her second in charge.

New members to the general committee are Loraine Motion, Colin Marsh, Roy Stevenson and Peter Irwin.

Graeme Dodds was elected chairman of the club.

Nicki Coates continues as honorary solicitor, with Ian Chamberlain reinstated as honorary treasurer.

Both have served the club in these positions for many years.

Current president Malcolm Withycombe was re-elected - a well-deserved result.

After the meeting, the new captains had their drive-ins.

Both results were quite impressive.

At the pre-AGM Texas Scramble on Saturday morning, the wind was blowing a gale but the bright sunshine made it a lot more seasonable.

The team of Ed Glease, Daniel Nicholls and Paul Mutton were the winners with an impressive score of 63.4 nett.

Rob Bones, Neil Meixner and Gus Rusbridge were just behind in second place, with 63.5.

In third place were Simon Partridge, Martin Reynolds and Danny Dix, with 65.2.

The ladies played foursomes on their day.

Audrey Joshua and new lady captain Clarke were miles ahead with 40 points.

Sheran Harding and Marie Ellis finished in second place, with 31, and Bianca Best and Joan Stevenson were awarded third place on countback, with 29.

Over on the Kirby course, the format was an 18-hole singles stableford. Marianne Kelly was the winner with 35 points.

Susie Gregory was in second place with 34.

The seniors recently kicked off their season of home and away matches against 12 other golf clubs in Essex and Suffolk.

The opening fixture, which was played at Frinton against Harwich and Dovercourt, saw seniors' captain Alan Dunt lead his team to a resounding victory.

The final result was 7½ to ½, so nearly a whitewash.

In their second fixture, away at Clacton, they came home with a satisfying draw with both sides scoring four wins with no matches halved.

Two past Frinton secretaries, Roger Attrill and Malcolm Boucher, were a unique pairing and won their match.
