GOAL king Aaron Condon is hoping for a dream double this season – FC Clacton avoiding relegation and Brightlingsea Regent lifting Ryman League silverware.

Clacton-based Condon left the Seasiders for Regent last May, after a season in which he plundered 32 goals in just 42 appearances to notch the highest number of goals in a single season since the club became FC Clacton.

In the process he also broke the overall record for most FC Clacton goals – 103 in 207 games - and his efforts saw him voted Manager’s Player-of-the-Year, Players’ Player-of-the-Year and Supporters’ Player-of-the-Year.

A move to Ryman League division north neighbours Brightlingsea soon followed and Condon has taken to the higher level like a duck to water, notching his 33rd goal of the season in Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Bury Town at North Road.

It was a result that put Regent nine points clear at the top of the table, ahead of second-placed Maldon and Tiptree.

And he said the victory was made all the sweeter by news of Clacton’s 2-0 victory against Kirkley and Pakefield, in the Thurlow Nunn League.

“I still love Clacton,” said Condon, who lives in Cloes Lane with Seasiders midfielder Louie Newland.

“It would be such a shame if they were to go down this season but hopefully that won’t happen.

“They’ve picked up and they’ve got a manager who will get the players really motivated in Kieron Shelley.

“Hopefully he’ll get them across the line.

“They’ve got quality there and players of a high calibre, like Kevin Coyle and Louie.

“People like that have played so many games at that level and hopefully they’ll see the team to safety.

“It’s always nice to see your home-town club do well and always good when Clacton and Brightlingsea win, especially as I live with Louie.

“It’s great when we’ve both won, rather than one of us sulking because things haven’t gone well.

“We’ll celebrate with a beer or two and a Chinese takeaway!”
