CLACTON Cannons ended their successful Suffolk League campaign with a disappointing 59-44 defeat at Brightlingsea Nomads.
Despite losing, they can still be proud of what they have achieved with such a young team.
They look set to finish fifth and only nine points off the league champions.
This game was really competitive and both teams were prepared to battle it out, toe-to-toe, for the win.
The first half was very close and the lead changed hands a number of times.
However, the Nomads who held an eight-point advantage by the break.
Despite the best efforts of Cannons shooting guard Riley Taylor and dad Paul Taylor, who combined for more than 20 of their sides' overall points, the team just couldn't recover the lead they had afforded their counterparts and never got within five points for the remainder of the game.
The season isn't over yet for the Cannons, as they now have two weeks to prepare for their Suffolk Plate quarter-final on March 19 away to Bury Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs are a team they have beaten home and away during the regular season.
