CLACTON hot-shots emerged victorious at the Essex County Pool Association’s annual Inter-league Cup Championships, in Braintree.

The best players from across the county took part in this team event, representing the likes of Brightlingsea, Colchester, Harwich, Braintree, Thurrock, Harlow and Chelmsford.

The Clacton and District Pool League was represented by three teams - Clacton A, Clacton B and Clacton Pot Black.

Clacton Pot Black were eliminated in the first round.

Clacton B won their first-round match against Harwich, before losing to Braintree Legends.

Clacton A, however, made a superb entrance to the competition, beating Chelmsford 10-6.

The quarter-finals followed and Clacton A continued their run of form to take out Braintree Legends 10-6.

In the semi-finals, Clacton A faced old rivals and current Essex Inter-league champions Colchester.

As always, they proved strong opponents but Clacton had the upper hand and overpowered them with a 10-8 victory. The final was against Harlow. It was a tense affair and the pressure showed.

Clacton A, however, held their nerve when it mattered to emerge as Essex champions after a 10-6 victory.

Team captain Steve Forrest said: “I’m so proud of my boys and it’s a pleasure being their captain.

“It’s the skill, determination and, above else, team spirit that has led to us to winning this prestigious title.”

In recognition of their victory, Clacton A have guaranteed a place in the National Inter-league finals, being held at Great Yarmouth in October.
