IT'S been a busy start to the year for St Osyth Boxing Club.

Three of their boys travelled to Smokey's gym, in Tilbury.

Tyler Upchurch had his first bout for the club, against an experienced boxer from Attenborough.

Upchurch showed great skills from the outset, throwing fantastic combinations, along with eye-catching straight shots.

He dominated the fight and was rewarded with a well-deserved, unanimous decision from the judges.

On the same night, Jordan Gosling was in the ring again, demonstrating his skills in another non-decision bout.

Gosling boxed well, impressing the coaches and audience alike.

Making his debut was Tom Green, who was switched on the night from a skills bout to a competitive fight.

Green, who could have declined, showed great courage and entered the ring.

He fought well but was caught with a few good shots.

With just 15 seconds left, the referee stopped the fight but all concerned felt it should have gone to the judges, with so little time left on the clock.

Meanwhile, six boxers from the club travelled to Chelmsford.

They took part in some competitive sparring and did a fantastic job, equipping themselves well and showing how their club is growing in strength and skills.

Now the club's focus has turned to their very first show, on Saturday, March 4 at The Orchards Holiday Park, in Point Clear.

With many bouts already matched, it is expected to be a fantastic night.

Tickets are priced at just £10 and can be ordered through the club's Facebook page (St Osyth Boxing Club).

Alternatively, you can pay on the door on the night.

All profits will go to improving the facilities at the volunteer-run club and they are hoping for a big turnout.

If any businesses would like to help by sponsoring the club they would be very grateful.

They can be contacted through the Facebook page.
