EIGHT teams from the Nomads club have made it through to the third round of the Handicap Knock-Out Cup, organised by the Clacton and District League - with pride of place going to Nomads Lions.

The Lions, last season's losing cup finalists, exacted a measure of revenge in their round-two tie by winning 5-4 against holders Windsor Eagles, the team which had beaten them in the 2016 final.

Both teams fielded their strongest sides but a good all-round performance from the Lions saw them home, with Paul Hume, Adam Cuthbert and Adam Wilkin all winning a singles apiece.

Hume and Cuthbert (0) took the final match 11-6, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7 against Gary Cattermole and John Pattrick (0).

There was another 5-4 nail-biter between division one sides at Lawford where the home side unexpectedly defeated Walton B.

Skipper Ian Sherwood led the way, winning the opening doubles with Richard Spence and taking both his singles. Spence and Andrea Alleyne (+1) defeated Kevin James and Paul Woolnough (-3) 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 in match nine.

In another top-flight encounter, title-chasing Windsor Condors proved too strong for relegation-threatened Windsor Owls, winning 5-0.

Three first division sides overcame division two opposition.

Nomads Panthers were given a sterner test than the 5-1 score suggests by Brotherhood I before emerging successful.

James Denyer stayed unbeaten, coming back from two sets and 9-3 down to defeat a tiring Kris Stefanov 11-7 in the fifth in a scratch-match.

Martin Edwards and John Owen were undefeated in Brotherhood B's 5-1 victory over Brotherhood H, as were Andy Vincent and George Berry in Windsor Hawks' 5-2 success against Nomads Tigers.

Three teams from division two defeated first division opponents - although with Brotherhood D and Windsor Kestrels so closely matched, it was hardly a surprise that Brotherhood took it 5-1.

Russell Hillier and Lee Harvey stayed unbeaten.

Windsor Harriers celebrated an unexpected 5-0 victory against Brotherhood C while Windsor Magpies also upset the form-book by beating Walton B 5-3, taking both doubles, and Dave Sweetland, John Plummer and Kayley Rodriguez each winning a singles.

In the first of two all-second division clashes, Caroline North, Kevin Hume and Allen Denyer, of Nomads Jaguars, excelled to defeat Brotherhood F 5-0.

Walton C came back from 3-1 down to beat Windsor Buzzards 5-3.

Rivhu Khan was undefeated but Toni Hayhow-Khan (+1) took the winning point, edging past Alan Rutledge (-5) 12-10 in the decider.

Division three Nomads Lynx caused a major stir by knocking out division two Brotherhood E, with Liam Harris unbeaten in their fine 5-2 victory.

Nomads Pumas, without a division two victory this season, had a hard-fought 5-1 success over third division Windsor Swallows, but it was a more straightforward 5-0 for Nomads Bobcats against Brotherhood J.

In two all-division three matches, Nomads Wildcats were 5-0 winners against a Walton D side hampered by injury to Jared Chelski while Arthur-Wells Garrett, Sue Lee and Barbra Rodgers surprised even themselves with a 5-1 win against Windsor Kites.
