TENDRING Volleyball Club's women's team marched into the National Cup quarter-finals after a 25-21, 25-17, 25-11 success at home to Cambridge.

The hosts started well but began to struggle against a strong serve by Cambridge.

Some big hits from Tendring players were dug well by Cambridge, who kept the ball in play and made Tendring work hard for their points.

With the game tied at 21-21, Tendring were able to use Karis Watson and Chaniel Nelson to finish the set off, 25-21.

The second set saw Tendring start to play the more fluid volleyball, making good use of wing hitters Fran Smith-Daye and Laura Hodgkinson.

Hodgkinson then went on a brilliant serving run which helped extend Tendring’s lead.

Some solid middle work by Jacky Skeen helped them over the line, 25-17.

Cambridge continued to apply pressure and stuck with Tendring in the rallies, producing some super block defence work. However, they were struggling to finish points off and Tendring were not making as many errors as in previous sets.

Sarah Edwards managed to finish the game off on match point, 25-11.

Tendring were also in action against Team South Wales on Saturday, in the Super 8s.

However, the game was abandoned when one of the opposition players was injured in the second set.
