FENCER Myles Ashforth has scooped another top sports award.

Weeks after being crowned as Tendring's Male Sports Personality of the Year, he received the under-18 gong at Monday's prestigious Sport Colchester Sports Personality Awards.

Colchester mayor Julie Young presented him with his prize at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Tendring Technology College student Ashforth lives in Kirby and is a former pupil at Rolph Primary School, in Thorpe.

He is a member of Colchester and District Fencing Club, which is why he was recognised in the Colchester awards.

It has been another memorable year for the talented teenager.

He made the under-15 England squads for both foil and Epee for the third year running, was selected for the under-17 Cadet Winton squad for the Eastern Region for the third year running and now has been selected for the Great Britain under-17 cadet Epee squad.

Ashforth won the under-14 boys' Epee British Youth Championship while still holding the under-13 England Youth Championship title.

He was also third in the under-14 boys' Foil British Youth Championships, in addition to holding both the foil and Epee Eastern Region under-14 titles.
