CLACTON powerlifter Pat Tombs produced a season-best performance at the Eastern Counties Drug-Free Championship, in Basildon.

Competing in the masters seven category, she gave notice that new world records are on the horizon.

Tombs set three new British records in the raw full power division in all three lifting disciplines - squat, bench press and deadlift.

The veteran lifter achieved a 70kg gram squat - her best since 2013 - and her first British record of the competition.

Her motivation continued with a 45kg in the bench press - only two kilos short of her masters six world record.

This lift secured a second British record.

With an air of excitement and a third record within reach, Tombs did not disappoint in the dead lift.

Despite weighing only 48kg, she heaved a massive 103kg to claim her third British record of the championship.

It was a satisfying day's work as these results assured her the honour of being masters seven championship and secured qualification into the British Championship, being staged in King's Lynn, in February.

Coach David Gunning said: 'Pat has scored a double-whammy in recent weeks, with the Eastern Counties Championship and her prestigious Tendring Female Sports Personality Award.

"I'm confident she will be chasing national success and world records in King's Lynn."

Tombs will now resume her winter schedule, at the Gallery Fitness Gym, in Clacton.
