CLACTON Golf Club hosted their premier singles matchplay knockout competition - the Kingsman Cup.

It was first presented to the club in 1933 by Ernest Kingsman.

Eighty-nine matches were played prior to this year's final, which was won by junior captain Riley Faulkner against Matt Baker.

And what a match it turned out to be.

Baker was one-up on the eighth tee.

However, on the eighth green, Faulkner holed a long birdie putt to go all-square.

After nine exhilarating holes, Faulkner was one-up and the match reached the 16th green with Faulkner two-up.

Baker then had a long birdie putt, missed it and Faulkner rolled in another birdie to win an exciting match 3&2.

Meanwhile, Clacton held their Junior Open Championship, with youngsters travelling from Hertfordshire, Suffolk and all over Essex.

It was the first under the tenure of Clacton professional and junior organiser Sam Teer.

Teer rated it a huge success and his junior charges at the club backed him up by taking the first three places.

The winner was Wilf Elliott, with a nett 68, on countback from second-placed Katy Yates.

In third place was Harvey Bell, with a nett 69.

The best gross score of 76 was returned by Frinton Golf Club's Jake Wells.

In the nearest the pin competition, the winner at the second hole was Faulkner.

At the fifth hole, it was The Warren's Sam Kinnanae, while at the seventh and 15th it was Wells.

At the 17th, and proving his knowledge of the Clacton course, was the home club's James Wright.

Clacton held their 2016 Adult-Junior competition.

The wining pair were the club's past junior captain Ben Rendell and Ben Usedon, with 42 points.

They won on countback from second-placed junior Henry Goodwin and Paul Pidgeon.

Clacton's ladies' section played their Pink Ball competition.

The ladies were in teams of three and each team is given a pink ball, which scores double points.

If the team loses the pink ball, the team plays to the end but gains no more double points.

The winning team were Chris Crossfield, Angela Barratt and Chriss Gibbard, with 112 points.

In second were Fiona Cope, Lorna Forder and Pat Cook, with 107, on countback from third-place Di Kedge, Anita Davey and Pat Gilbert.
