CLACTON Golf Club's ladies held their second Clacton Scramble.

It took place over six holes off the blue tees and featured ladies who have joined the club this year and are new to golf.

Each group had an experienced player with them to explain some of the more simple rules, the etiquette of golf and how to keep the game moving.

It is very encouraging to see the club's new ladies improving as the weeks go by.

They now need to be encouraged to play the full 18 holes and to get three cards in so they can have a handicap, which will enable them to play in the club's weekly competitions and continue their improvement and enjoyment of the game.

All the ladies said they had enjoyed the game and would have liked to carry on, which is encouraging.

Clacton PGA professional Sam Teer was thanked for his involvement, encouragement and advice.

Clacton's men played a Top Dogs competition on Sunday morning.

Playing golf beyond his wildest dreams was the club's popular and energetic secretary Terry McConnell and his Top Dogs partner Simon Barns, returning a winning score of 46 points.

In second place were Peter Hart and junior captain Riley Faulkner with 45 points, on countback from third-placed Tony Chandler and Keith Buxton.

Clacton's seniors section played their next Top Dogs competition.

The winning pair were Laurie Farrugia and Dave Gilbert, with 44 points.

In second were Dave Gilligan and Ray Justice, with 42 points, and in third were John Crick and John Stuck, with 40.

Clacton's men played the October Midweek Medal and the winner was Brady Diplock, returning a handicap reducing score of 76-10=66.

In second place was the club's house director Richard Burrell, with 86-15-71, on countback from third-placed golf committee member Keith Buxton with 77-6-71.
