GENTS and ladies vied for the Vandenburg Cup at Frinton Golf Club.

The event was an 18-hole singles event on the Havers Course.

David Partridge was the trophy winner, coming in with 38 points.

Jason Nicholls was awarded second place on countback.

Chris Taylor was just behind in third place, with 37 points.

The ladies played in the Past Captain’s Trophy and Margaret Dean won with 34 points.

Former captain Tracey Taylor came in second on countback, while Sheran Harding won the accompanying stableford competition with 36 points.

Over on the Kirby Course, Chris Aplin won the Kirby Course Cup, originally presented to the club by Jan McLellan. Aplin had a very respectable 58 nett.

Patricia Freear was in second place with 62 nett.

The Lorence Evelyn Jones Trophy was contested - having originally been scheduled in June but delayed due to torrential rain - and was an 18-hole medal with a maximum handicap of 24.

Barry Povoas won on countback with a score of 66 nett, just ahead of Vince McAuley.

Mark Lee was in third place, with 70 nett, on countback, with Jake Wells fourth.

The Old Aloysians Golfing Society played at Frinton.

Sheran Harding was in fine form again, winning with an amazing 45 points.

Guest George Whitebread was in second place with 43.

The team event was won by the combination of Charles Yardley, Stuart Summers and Paul and George Whitebread, with a score of 95.

Just squeaking into second place were Peter and Caroline Gard, Ginny Richardson and Wayne Ross with 94 points.

Frinton's seniors won a home fixture against Braintree, 6½-1½.

In the regular Friday morning competition, ladies were invited to join and the winning team was made up of Lyn Lawrence, Simon Parkes and Chris Strelly.

Second place went to Audrey Joshua, David Moore and Mike Wellings.

Hedley Missin, Mike Kuzma and John Coupland finished third.

The seniors played for the Senior Shield - a trophy first presented to the club by president Malcolm Whithycombe on behalf of J&B Scotch 20 years ago.

Mike Kuzma won it this year with 44 points.

Seniors captain Malcolm Boucher came in second with 36 points and captain Peter Webster scored 35 points to finish third.

David Moore, Simon Parkes, Keith Cattermole, Malcolm Boucher and Chris Strelly all collected trophies they had won during the season and an AGM followed.
