FC CLACTON slid to a 4-1 defeat against Brantham Athletic, in Tuesday’s Thurlow Nunn League premier division contest at the Rush Green Bowl.

It followed a 1-0 defeat at Ely City on Saturday and means the Seasiders are still bottom of the table and point-less, after 12 defeats out of 12.

However, boss Kieron Shelley insists it is far from doom and gloom – and believes his side will be rewarded for their performances soon.

“It will come,” he said.

“There’s no doubt in my mind and I don’t feel remotely negative.

“If we keep playing this brand of football, we will be rewarded and we’re not a million miles away from any of the sides we’ve played, apart from Kirkley.

“All the boys can see the progress we’re making, but unfortunately it was the same old story against Brantham.

“We switched off at crucial moments and ended up being punished for small mistakes.

“After finding ourselves two-down, we knew the next goal would be pivotal.

“We’d have the momentum and could then nick a point or even win the game.

“The boys came out for the second half with their feet on the gas and got the goal we needed.

“Then we conceded twice again, in quick succession, and had a mountain to climb again.”

Wayne Blackman scored the Seasiders’ goal.
