BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT will be out to “right the wrongs” of their weekend defeat against Tilbury when they welcome Haringey Borough to North Road tonight.

James Webster’s men slid to their second Ryman League division north defeat in five days after letting a lead slip and losing 3-2 on Saturday.

However, they have an immediate chance to bounce back when Haringey visit for Regent’s second game of nine during an action-packed October.

And assistant boss Chris Smith hopes his players respond positively – not just to pocket league points but also to reward the North Road supporters and the Regent committee.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down, show a bit of character and right a few wrongs after the weekend,” said the former number two at Brentwood Town.

“It’s good that we’re playing again so soon, to get the disappointment of this game out of the way, and to hopefully get a result here for the people who pay to watch us.

“It’s a nice club with some really good people and we want to reward them, too.

“In terms of the backroom staff and those behind the scenes, this is the best club I’ve ever been at.

“The management team want the team to do well for them, for all the hard work they put in, and I do believe this is a much stronger squad than we had last season.

“For one reason or another, it’s not clicking, though, and it’s very frustrating.”

Smith was bitterly disappointed with Saturday’s match against Tilbury.

After falling behind, Regent levelled and then nosed in front thanks to two goals from in-form striker Aaron Condon.

However, the Dockers levelled from the spot and then grabbed a winner.

“I was very frustrated,” said Smith.

“We did very well in the first half and matched Tilbury’s physicality.

“We deserved to be in front and were pleased to have got a reaction from the boys, after last Tuesday’s performance at Norwich United (Brightlingsea lost 4-1).

“We thought we’d go on to win the match but in the second half we just didn’t compete.

“Tilbury won the midfield battle and we didn’t get enough possession.

“Then when we did have it, we couldn’t retain it and we were architects of our downfall for their winning goal, giving the ball away in a bad area to leave ourselves two against two.”

MALDON & TIPTREE, HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS and WITHAM TOWN do not have fixtures tonight.
