CLACTON Golf Club won their Essex Golf Union Youth Shield semi-final against Chigwell, at Chelmsford.

They are now into the final for the first time since 1982.

The final will be played on Sunday at The Bentley Golf Club, near Brentwood.

Ben Rendell had a 7-5 win against Ronah Homer while Katy Yates enjoyed a 9-8 victory against Alex Thyer and Max Smith won one-up against James Styer.

Junior captain Riley Faulkner halved with Arun Kudail, who had an eagle two on the par four second hole, but Josh Bethell had one of those days where nothing went right, losing 7-6 to Thomas Atkinson.

Meanwhile, Clacton's men played for the Canny Ryall Cup.

This is the club's oldest trophy as it was presented to the club in 1911 by Dr Canny Ryall.

The 2016 winner, with a remarkable score of 43 stableford points, was Mark James.

In second was Phil Green, with 41, on countback from Bradley Broughton.

Clacton's ladies played the Centenary Trophy and the winner was Angela Barratt, with a bogey score of plus two.

In second place was Maxine Baker, with plus one, and in third was Brenda Lord, with minus one, on countback from Sonja Strutt.

Clacton's ladies played a midweek match for the Nine-Hole Trophy.

The winner was Marlene Barwick, with a nett strokeplay score of 41.

In second was Sheila Coleman, with a nett 45, and in third was Marilyn Bates, with a nett 51, on countback from fourth-placed Lyn Willson.

Clacton's seniors travelled to Ipswich Golf Club for this year’s annual match and their team consisted of captain Ray Fage, Ray Crossfield, Geoff Manning, John Fisher, Laurie Farrugia, Ian Wenman, Norman Borstal, Doug Nichols, Nigel Martin, Bill Clarke, John Crick, John Wacker, Bill Highstead, immediate past captain Joe Middleton, Bill Davey and Derek Woodrow.

Afterwards it was announced that Ipswich had won by 4½ matches to 3½.
