CLACTON Golf Club held their 2016 Junior Club Championship.

It took place on a bright but windy day, which made scoring difficult.

This 36-hole scratch event had a good turnout of young golfers, playing for the junior championship and other divisional prizes.

The winner and champion for 2016 was Katy Yates, returning scores of 81 and 76 for a 36-hole total of 157.

In second was Ben Rendell, with 82-77=159, on countback from third-placed Josh Bethell, with 79-80=159.

The handicap awards went to Bethell and Harvey Bell, while the Handicap Trophy winner was Henry Goodwin and the best nett score winner was James Wright.

Meanwhile, Clacton's Youth Shield team travelled to The Warren Golf Club to play their quarter-final match against Stock Brook Manor.

The Clacton team dug deep against an excellent Stock Brook team, in a match where birdies were needed to win holes.

Results: Ben Rendell won 3&1 against Ashley Croft, Katy Yates won 3&2 against Molly Haslam, Max Smith won 4&2 against Teddy Papple, Riley Faulkner won one-up against Charlie Dodds and Wilf Elliott lost two-down against Greg Crawley.

Team manager Keith Potter congratulated his team on their hard-fought victory, by four matches to one.

Clacton are now in the semi-finals of this county competition for the first time in many years.
