SCHOOLBOY Joseph Burns was in record-breaking form at Colchester Garrison.
The year four pupil at Tendring Primary School smashed the record for his age group in the 60 metres sprint, at the Clacton and District Primary School Sports Association Championship.
The previous record stood at nine seconds - and he completed the race in just 8.79s.
Joseph, nine, is no stranger to success at the championships.
Last year he won his age group and played his part in his previous school, St Osyth, coming third.
The format was changed this year and the schools were split into large and small categories.
Tendring finished first overall in the small schools' section.
As well as being a talented athlete, Joseph is also a keen footballer who plays for Eight Ash Green and also for Colchester United Elite, playing and scoring against professional teams like Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Ipswich Town, Norwich City, Cambridge United and Luton Town.
