CLACTON Golf Club hosted the 2016 Boudica Cup.

On a beautiful sunny day, six teams of mixed pairs represented Chelmsford, Clacton, Colchester, Frinton and Harwich Golf Clubs.

The best four scores counted.

Clacton ran out winners by two points, with 139 points, ahead of Frinton (137).

Steve James and Christine Crossfield starred for Clacton with a super 40 points.

The Frinton team scored evenly and well, with Chris and Tracey Taylor scoring highest for them with 35 points.

The highlight of the day for Frinton was their accuracy on the par threes – winning five of the eight nearest the pins on the par threes.

Marilyn Clarke (2), Michelle Lawton, Sheila Attrill and Vince McAuley all won nearest the pin prizes.

The ladies competed for the Fiona Edmond Trophy in driving rain.

A scratch event over 36 holes, Marie Ellis emerged victorious after a gruelling 40 holes, eventually defeating 15-year old Claire Vaughan.

Both competitors were level after 36 holes, so there was a three-hole play-off and, again, the scores were even.

Rules stated that a sudden death play-off would be needed to separate the two players, so after 40 holes in very trying conditions, Ellis summoned up the energy to birdie the par five fourth and clinch the title.

Kevin Maleary and Gus Rusbridge won the Bob Turner Foursomes on Bank Holiday Monday with 32 points.

Nigel Jackson and his partner, Simon Martin-Redman, also scored 32 points, but had to settle for second place on countback.

Peter Irwin and Harry Sanderson were in third place with 30 points.
