CLACTON moved up to second in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two after Brad Turner hit his second century in as many weeks and Lewis Kirk his maiden senior hundred, in a 146-run victory at home to Ipswich and East Suffolk.

Batting first, the Seasiders got off to the worst possible start when skipper Imran Sheikh edged behind from the first ball of the match.

Mo Asghar and Ryan Chamberlain looked to be aggressive in the opening overs, as has been a feature of the team's cricket in recent years.

Things were slowed when Chamberlain was bowled by Ben Broad with the score on 25.

Asghar and Turner then added 56 before the former was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Nathan Pryke.

From here the carnage ensued, with Turner and Kirk dispatching the Ipswich bowling around Vista Road.

The pair put on 182 in 142 deliveries, with Turner bringing up his second hundred of the season before being bowled for 110 (12 fours and three sixes) by Kyle Jay.

Ashan Athukoralage joined Kirk at the crease as he neared his maiden senior ton.

Kirk left it late, waiting until the last over to smash a six over mid-wicket to finish 104 not out and push Clacton past 300. Things could have been very different for the visitors, with both Turner and Kirk being dropped while in their 20s.

The Ipswich reply started slowly, with the opening pair adding 20, when Tim Debenham picked out the man at mid-wicket off Kirk for nine.

Derek Bloomfield and skipper Alex Berry added 61 before Sheikh claimed the first of four wickets, bowling Bloomfield for 29.

Berry was well supported on his way to 70, but runs were hard to come by for the other Ipswich batsmen.

Only Steve Worne, who was also bowled by Sheikh for 20, made double figures.

Sheikh picked up Jay and Broad, Chamberlain had Naman Kanotra caught in the deep and when Kirk returned to bowl Berry for 70 the game was well and truly over.

Michael Griffin picked up a couple of consolation boundaries to finish eight not out and claim the third batting point for Ipswich.

On Saturday, Clacton travel to unbeaten Maldon, hoping to cause an upset (1pm start).
