CLACTON Golf Club were successful in their latest Youth Shield match, at home to Five Lakes.

Junior captain Riley Faulkner and his team triumphed 4-1 and their last group match is now away to Stoke-by-Nayland on June 18.

In match one, Clacton's Ben Rendell lost 4&3 against Jack Garnett but Katy Yates won 2&1 against Tom Arrowsmith and Faulkner prevailed 4&2 against Yoyo Hobbs.

Josh Bethell won 6&4 against Tom Vass while in match five, keeping up his 100 per cent record, Wilf Elliott won 3&2 against Lewis Cookson.

Meanwhile, Clacton's men played their May Medal.

In division one, for handicaps of 12 and below, the winner was Dave Reid, returning a score of 79-10-69.

He won on countback from Bob Gage, with 79-10-69, on countback from Dennis West, with 80-11-69, on countback from fourth-placed Craig Green, with 78-9-69.

In division two, for handicaps of 13 and above, the winner was Gary Roberts, with 82-16-66.

In second place was Gary Harms, with 88-19-67, and in third was Mark Fitch, with 83-15-68.

Clacton lady captain Gilly Cullen welcomed a team from Burnham-on-Crouch for the Essex Ladies' Golf Union Bronze Shield match.

The team of Brenda Lord, Heather Bradfield, Jennie Corbyn, team captain Chris Crossfield, Judy Speck, Jackie Bright and Sue Gurry all played well, winning 5-1.

They were ably supported by their hard-working caddies - lady captain Cullen, Pat Gilbert, Anita Davey, Mary Cole, Pat Messenger, Janet Hillier and Pat Cook.
