FRINTON Squash Club's annual championships proved a great success.

There were three ladies' and girls' events and three men's and boys' events.

On finals night, old rivalries were renewed and some new ones created.

The men’s A final saw Tendring Technology College teacher Rob Rouse defeat rival Rivhu Khan, in an exciting four-setter.

Both were vying for the most mentions on the honours board as, prior to this year’s final, they had won five titles each.

With all to play for, Khan, playing fast and attacking squash, took the first game 15/11.

In the second he seemed to take a breather as Rouse won 15/2.

The third and fourth, however, were pretty much nip and tuck.

However, on this occasion, the younger man managed to prevail, despite some tough points played, winning 15/10, 15/11.

The men’s B final saw veteran Sue Vine playing a considerably younger Jack Bruce.

Despite a brilliant performance and managing to take one game 16/14, Bruce prevailed after many long, punishing rallies, going on to win 3-1.

The junior boys' under-15 event featured nine players, including four North Essex Squash Academy (NESA) students.

Each student played to the very best of their abilities and both NESA coaches, Chris Vine and Adam Duce, were extremely pleased with the high standard of squash on display.

Results: 1 Connor Jarmain 44 points, 2 Alfie Cook 38, 3 Harrison Smith 34, 4 Ollie Fuller 32.

The ladies' B event had four players, all of whom were new to the game, having recently joined the brand new “Squash Girls Can” sessions on a Monday morning.

After a round-robin event, Debbie Heffer emerged the winner with just one point more than runner-up Justine Goss.

The ladies' A final, due to take place between Sue Vine and Sarah Bruce, was unfortunately delayed, owing to a last-minute injury, and the girls' final will take place next week.
