FC CLACTON’S Karl Andrade believes his on-song side can build and improve on their record-breaking finish.

The Seasiders sealed tenth place in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division, ending with a 4-0 victory at home to Gorleston on Saturday.

It was the club’s highest-ever finish, having previously managed a best position of 15th.

And while pleased to reflect on a successful campaign, Andrade, who scored twice at the weekend, believes his club should use it as a springboard for more success in the coming years.

“(Manager) David (Coyle) spoke to us all at the end and hit the nail on the head when he said we’re a young side, still building and learning to play the right way,” said the striker, who was joined on the score-sheet by another two-goal hero, Aaron Condon.

“It’s important to keep looking up and aiming to improve.

“We wanted to finish in mid-table and managed tenth, so now we should look at the top eight next season. Maybe the top six.

“We’re on the up and pushing in the right direction.

“When I look at the sides above us, I don’t think we’re a million miles away from them.

“There’s no reason why we can’t aim to catch them and do even better.

“We’ve got four or five players who are over 25, but the rest are a lot younger and they’re only going to get better and more experienced with every game they play.”

Andrade believes Saturday’s win was a fitting finale to the Thurlow Nunn League season.

It was also Clacton’s second home win in five days, having defeated Thetford 3-0 last Tuesday.

“Considering the run we’d been on (five defeats in a row), it was great to finish with two home wins,” he said.

“We played most of the top five in the final couple of months so it was always going to be tough.

“But it was nice to get the win we needed to end our season on a high and it just reminded us of what a good season it’s been.

“To finish tenth is a really big achievement for us.

“No-one can take it away from us.

“On a personal note, I’ve only played half the season but it’s certainly been enjoyable.

“I love it here. It feels like home and it’s been great to be back.

“It was nice to end with a couple of goals, although I was disappointed not to get a hat-trick.

“I had two easier chances which I missed.”

Clacton held their end-of-season presentation night on Saturday evening.

Condon was a triple winner, walking away with the manager, players' and supporters' (home and away) prizes.

Kevin Coyle also collected two awards at the presentation night.

He picked up the away supporters' prize and also the Derek Savage Memorial Award for champagne moment of the season, for his stunning goal at Newmarket.
