FRINTON Golf Club’s men played in the St George’s Day match.

The format was greensomes matchplay.

It was the Patrons v the Exiles and the Patrons, captained by Graeme Dodds, emerged victorious 5½-2½.

Exiles captain Peter Webster appropriately sported a kilt. The notable shot of the day had to be Nigel Anderson’s on the 14th.

At about 180 yards out from the hole, he somehow managed to propel his ball backward and left his partner, Webster, with a 190-yard shot.

That match didn’t have a happy ending.

The Patron’s Bryn Mickleburgh arrived injured, so junior captain Claire Vaughan had to substitute.

The only lady in the competition, and a rather young one at that, and partner John Sowton comfortably saw off their competitors.

Sheran Harding and Maria Naden stormed to a great win in the ladies’ foursomes competition, with 32 points.

Helen Barr and Audrey Joshua finished second with 29 points, pipping Joan Stevenson and Ginny Richardson on countback.

Tracey Taylor got through to the third round of the silver county knockout. She won two-up away to The Essex.

New Leslie Wood team captain Rob Long guided his players to a first-round win away to Risebridge.

Frinton now play Chigwell away - and victory would be a sweet one as it was Chigwell that beat Frinton in the 2014 final.
