WELL, he made it.

For the last couple of months, alongside the usual interest in the team’s form and results, there’s been the intriguing sub-plot of Aaron Condon hunting down the record for FC Clacton goals in a season of 29.

A long-range screamer in our 4-1 defeat to Kirkley on Saturday brought him to 28 goals, one short of the record with two games remaining.

Could he equal the record in either of our remaining games against Thetford and Gorleston?

Anyone who’s heard of his FA Cup exploits knows that Aaron loves a bit of drama.

The way he writes his scripts, I was fully expecting him to leave it to a last-minute wonder goal against Gorleston to break the record.

But, as it turned out, he didn’t make us wait that long with two goals against Thetford, both typical Condon goals too – beating defenders and cutting in from the right to fire home.

Those goals, either side of Jordan Brazitis’s lovely 40-yard lob, gave us a 3-0 win and gave Aaron his 100th and 101st career goals and, more importantly, his 29th and 30th goals of the season to break Sean Hillier’s previous record.

I’m delighted for Aaron.

He’s a lovely guy who takes so much pride in playing for his home-town club.

Well done mate, we’ll set a target of 35 next year, eh?

That means we can go into our last game at home to Gorleston on Saturday relaxed, focussing on a win and hopefully sneaking a top-half finish.

However, I also want it to be the start of a new campaign to get Parris Newland a goal.

After 88 FC Clacton appearances, Parris sits just a mere 101 goals adrift of Aaron Condon on… well, it’s 0.

So wouldn’t a goal on Saturday be a fitting way to end the year?

Some come on David and the boys, I want you to get Parris playing up front and taking every free-kick and penalty to get that elusive first goal.

Forget the boy Condon, that would be the real fairytale end to the season!

Come on you Seasiders!
