CLACTON Golf Club lady captain Gilly Cullen welcomed Langdon Hills for the Essex Ladies’ Golf Union Bronze Match.

The Clacton team of Cullen, Jennie Corbyn, Brenda Lord, Chris Crossfield, Heather Bradfield, Jackie Bright and Kath Sinnott played well but lost on the second extra play-off hole and 4-3 overall.

Clacton have another four matches to complete their league section and they will play The Warren, Burnham-on-Crouch, Rochford Hundred and Forrester Park.

Clacton members played the Gage Cup.

This match is played each year between the ladies and seniors’ sections of the club, in memory of club stalwarts Mr and Mrs John Gage.

The ladies’ team was captain Gilly Cullen, Marilyn Bates, Denise Pink, Steph Smith, Linda McKane, Janet Hiller, Jackie Bright, Lorna Forder, Cheryl Stepton, Sandy Cocker, Pam Richmond, Eve Bracci, Heather Bradfield, Cath Fage, Pat Gilbert, Brenda Lord, Lyn Willson, Kath Sinnott and Gilbert Bradfield.

The men’s team was vice-captain John Kemp, Ken Schofield, John Willson, John Nicholson, Malcolm Pitcher, John Wacker, Bill Highstead, Brian Viercant, Trevor Bright, John O`Regan, John Stuck, Brian Wiggins, Bob Seggie, Geoff Manning, Joe Middleton, Steve Forder, John Hiller and Dave Cocker.

For the first time in several years, Kemp presented winning captain Cullen, with the Gage Cup.

Clacton’s Leslie Wood team captain Steve Parkes welcomed Top Meadow to Clacton for a first-round match and it was the hosts who won 13-2.

At lunch, following the morning foursomes matches, Clacton were leading 5-0.

In the afternoon singles, Colin Ross, Brady Diplock, Graig Green and Darren Starling all played well, giving Clacton a 13-2 victory.

They now have a home match with Maldon Golf Club.

On a fine Thursday afternoon, Clacton’s male golfers played the April Midweek Medal.

Junior member Max Smith had a fine round, returning a winning sub par score of 69-5-63 and a new handicap of 3.7.

In second place was Paul Kirk, with 78-10-68, and a new handicap of 9.4.

In third place was Simon Smith, with 80-9-71.

On a sunny and warn Tuesday morning, Clacton’s ladies played the Coronation Foursomes.

Winning this “gruesome twosome” were lady captain Gilly Cullen and Brenda Lord, with 33 stableford points.

In second place were Fiona Cope and Denise Pink, with 28 points, and in third place were Judy Speck and Jennie Corbyn with 27.
