WELL that wasn’t in the script!

As programme editors, the arrival of the month of April is usually a cue for myself and Martin to take a sigh of relief, knowing that our worries over the weather causing unwanted postponements are over for another season.

Without wanting to blow our own trumpets, we’re rather proud of our award-winning programme and a lot of hard work and effort from a number of people go in to making it what it is.

A postponement, therefore, is always a source of frustration, as it means that those efforts have ultimately gone to waste and there is also a financial cost that we can ill afford.

It is of course the Queen’s 90th birthday today and it is safe to say that one was not amused when news of the postponement came through last Friday evening.

But such is life and we now look forward to the fixture taking place this coming Tuesday.

Though the first team game fell victim to the weather, the under-21s’ match versus Harold Hill Under-21s on the outside pitch at Rush Green went ahead as scheduled and it just remains for me to congratulate manager Ian Scott and the boys on becoming Essex Olympian Football League under-21 division champions!

Their 3-0 success in the match confirmed their title triumph, in their inaugural season.

They now have the league cup final on May 3 to look forward to and the chance to complete an impressive double.

The first team, all being well, return to action at Kirkley and Pakefield this weekend, looking to end an unfortunate run of defeats.

Despite the run, we currently sit in 11th spot and remain on course for achieving the club’s highest-ever league finish.

And with captain Aaron Condon now just two goals short of scoring 100 for the club, a landmark I know he’ll be eager to reach before the end of the season, there is still plenty to play for as this campaign draws to a close.

Let’s hope it ends with us having just as much to celebrate.

Come on you Seasiders!
