ISN’T it strange how you can lose three games of football and feel so different about each one?

Three games ago as FC Clacton lost to Hadleigh I came away grumpy, annoyed and fed up at a lacklustre and frankly pathetic performance from the boys in a 3-0 defeat.

Next up against Stanway and despite a 6-0 defeat I felt quite philosophical.

They’re a very good side, we’d worked hard, competed well and if we hadn’t have given away a couple of goals from silly mistakes it would have been a much closer scoreline on the night.

Then, finally moving on to last Saturday’s 4-2 defeat against Norwich United I came away from the game almost feeling like we’d won.

After the Stanway game I was nervous what may happen, even more so when I saw the threadbare nature of our squad on the day.

But to credit the lads, they gave it their all and then for large periods we gave the league champions and runaway league leaders Norwich a really good game of it.

Had we again not given away stupid goals (the good teams don’t need help scoring boys, make it harder please) then we might have given them an even bigger scare.

While the first team have had a tough run, one FCC team not used to tasting defeat this year is our under-21s who marched into the final of the Denny King Cup on Saturday with a 5-1 win over May & Baker EC.

The boys can now seal the first half of a league and cup double with a win in their final league game on Saturday.

Even if they don’t win, other teams will still have to win a number of games to steal the title but I’m sure Ian Scott and his side will be looking to seal it on Saturday.

Best of luck boys, bring home the silverware.

While they are playing the first team will face Thetford Town at The Bowl and I’m desperate to see a win….I can’t put a cheery spin on many more defeats.
