NOMADS Pumas hold the distinction of being the longest-serving team in division three of the Clacton and District League.

However, after 17 continuous seasons, this could be the year that sees them move up the local table tennis ladder.

The Pumas made it seven wins out of seven with a 7-3 victory over Windsor Penguins – a result that puts them 13 points clear at the top of the table.

Eric Lemke remained unbeaten but it was a close-run 12-10 in the decider against super-veteran Ron Dacey, who won a couple for the Penguins.

Lionel Goddard, now in his tenth year with the Pumas and his sixth as captain, won a couple and John Bowers – a Pumas’ player for 15 of the last 17 seasons – took one.

Second-placed Nomads Ocelots beat Nomads Cougars 9-1, with Mike Wellum and Scott Campbell unbeaten.

Walton D were 9-1 winners against Windsor Ospreys.

The closest match saw Walton’s Lynette Sparks edge out Debra Found 12-10 in the fifth.

There was a treble for Andrew Cawley and two each for Hazel Blanche and Jordan Webb, as Nomads Wildcats defeated Windsor Kites 7-3.

Chris Simson won two for the Kites.

Brotherhood G drew with Windsor Swallows, with Brotherhood’s Paul Metcalf excelling to take a maximum.

Ethan Lloyd and Jason Lloyd took hat-tricks as Nomads Leopards beat Nomads Lynx 9-1.

Liam Harris won the Lynx point with a hard-fought 11-6 in the fifth success over Norman Jacobs.

In division one, Windsor Hawks beat Walton B 7-3 to move up to the heady heights of second place.

Felipe Rodriguez, Andy Vincent and Ian Fielder all won two while Walton’s Paul Woolnough recorded a surprise 11-8 in the fifth victory over Vincent.

Brotherhood C’s big guns, Kevin Gowlett and Alan Burgess, took hat-tricks in the 7-3 success against Nomads Lions.

But their Brotherhood team-mate, Fred Gallone, will feel unfortunate to have lost 11-6 in the decider to both Brian Parish and John Hockley.

Three for Bob Sawyer and a couple apiece for Graham Bunce and Dave Martin saw Windsor Kestrels home 8-2 against Brotherhood D.

Paul Alden played well to pick up Brotherhood’s two points.

In division two, Windsor Owls defeated Brotherhood F 6-4, with Mark Salter and Frank Burbidge unbeaten.

The tightest match was Gerald Batt’s 11-8 in the fifth win over Windsor’s Tricia Salter.

In-form Graham Parkes took a maximum as Brotherhood H defeated Windsor Magpies 8-2.

John Wrigley and James Smith-Daye each won two but all four points came from matches that went to five.

Brotherhood I beat Windsor Buzzards 7-3, with Tom Wilkin and Mark Beckham undefeated.

Jonathan Found had a narrow 12-10 in the decider success over Windsor's Ray Chillingworth.

Jenny Higgins and Isabel Barton both stayed unbeaten in Windsor Harriers’ 7-3 victory over Brotherhood E.

Nomads Jaguars beat Nomads Bobcats 6-4, with Andrew North taking a treble.
