IT’S been a long haul back to fitness but Fred Button is making his mark again in division one of the Clacton and District League.

Button only managed two matches last season but this year he has played in all six of Windsor Eagles’ fixtures and his good form has been a major factor in seeing his side rise to second in the table.

He showed all the grit and determination which has become his trademark over the years to record his first maximum since March 2014, to lead the Eagles to a convincing 9-1 victory over Windsor Kestrels.

Gary Cattermole also stayed undefeated for the Eagles but he was involved in two tight matches, beating John Harvey 11-4 in the fifth and Graham Bunce 11-7 in the fifth.

Walton B drew with Brotherhood B, with Gavin Price’s maximum for Walton including victories in five over David North and Martin Edwards, in the latter case by a nail-biting 13-11 in the decider.

Gary Young was unbeaten in Walton C’s 7-3 win against Brotherhood C, as were Felipe Rodriguez and Andy Vincent in Windsor Hawks’ 8-2 victory over Brotherhood D.

Lee Harvey and Russell Hillier took a point apiece for Brotherhood.

In division two, Nomads Tigers edged past Brotherhood F 6-4 but none of their players could get the better of an on-song Barry Allen, who enjoyed success over John Bonner, Roger Hance and John Marshall.

Hance and Marshall each won two for the Tigers.

Windsor Owls drew with Brotherhood H.

There were two each for Frank Burbidge and Mark Salter of the Owls but both lost their 100 per cent tags, with Grant Sharpe beating Salter 11-9 in the fifth and Graham Parkes excelling to defeat Burbidge in three-straight.

Lawford were 9-1 winners over Brotherhood I, with Richard Spence and Paul Hewitt undefeated.

Jonathan Found took a consolation point for Brotherhood with victory over Ian Sherwood.

Brotherhood E overcame Nomads Bobcats 6-4, despite a hat-trick from Tony Robinson for the losers. For Brotherhood, both Duncan Dunne and Tony Edmonds won two and Gary Bayliss one.

Jill Canning took the Bobcats’ fourth point.

In division three, Nomads Pumas beat Nomads Leopards 8-2.

Lionel Goddard recorded a maximum, while John Bowers and Andrew Cousins each won two.

Bowers narrowly failed to make it a hat-trick, losing 11-9 in the decider to Roger McNaughton.

Nomads Wildcats beat Nomads Ocelots 6-4, with Brian Friday’s treble including a 14-12 in the fifth victory over Mike Wellum.

Wildcats’ Jordan Webb and Andrew Cawley took a crucial doubles while Scott Campbell had a close 13-11 in the decider singles win over Webb.

Rob Bright and Paul Metcalf were unbeaten and Joanne Millar picked up a debut league victory, as Brotherhood G defeated Nomads Cougars 8-2.

Nomads Lynx lost 10-0 to both Walton D and Windsor Swallows, with Kayleigh Stratford picking up her first treble in the latter match.
