CLACTON 3

SAFFRON WALDEN 1

East Men’s League division three south-east

CLACTON kept their 100 per cent record going as both their first and second teams won again.

The first team started brightly and created lots of chances, in their match against Saffron Walden.

However, it was the visitors that countered and latched on to a deflection to take the lead.

Nick Key smashed in a short corner to equalise and Clacton, thanks to some tidy, composed possession, through Kieron Parkes, Denzil Donovan and man-of-the-match Tom Sinclair, were able to find the willing runs of Sam Jenner, Sam Hodge, Elliot Steele and Stephen Moriarty.

Their best move came when Walker combined with Hodge, rounded the keeper but was stopped illegally.

However, Rik Coleman saw his penalty saved and the score was still level at the break.

The second half saw Clacton move through the gears and the visitors’ young side tired.

When Key smashed in another short corner, the Walden keeper was unlucky to see his save rebound to the gleeful Jamie Roberts, who smashed the ball over the line for 2-1.

Clacton made the visitors’ chase the ball around with some crisp passing and they secured the points when captain Carl Parkes glided around the defence to make it 3-1.

On Saturday, Clacton travel to newly-promoted East London.
