BRAD Turner hit his second century in as many games to help Clacton overcome Brightlingsea in division three of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Clacton batted first and got off to a flying start, Sheikh making 16 in no time at all before getting a leading edge off the bowling of Waltham with the score on 18.

The visitors then shot themselves in the foot with some poor calling, leading Facey to being run out for seven.

Asghar and Turner added 59 by taking on the Brightlingsea bowlers before another run out cost Asghar his wicket for 30.

Turner and Chamberlain steadied the ship, plundering the home attack to all parts of the ground, both batsmen getting full value for their shots.

The pair put on an unbeaten partnership of 148, pushing Clacton past the 200 mark and ensuring full batting points.

Turner finished the innings on 109 (15x4s 2x6s) not out, joined by Chamberlain 64 (9x4s 1x6) not out to post a competitive 237. Turner’s second century of the year also pushed him past 500 runs for the year.

Turner then had to turn his attention to bowling along with Jack Eastman.

The pair bowled with good control to put pressure on the batsmen and were rewarded early on when Bowler feathered a catch behind to Lee with the score on two.

The Brightlingsea scoring rate was slow, well contained by the bowlers and thanks to an impressive battling display from Bee’s who batted almost 30 overs for his 37 as wickets fell around him.

The only other resistance came from Dowman at number eight whose counter attacking innings helped inject some excitement into the game, finishing on 36 not out including six boundaries.

Turner finished off a good day with three wickets as well as Sheikh picking up two.

Kirk, Facey and Occleshaw all chipped in with a wicket to bring the full 20 points into Clacton’s reach.

The impressive young Eastman returned to clean bowl Marks and Oakes also impressed in his two overs, hitting the top off the stumps to bowl Palmer and seal the win.

Clacton sit top of division three, 37 points clear with four games remaining.

Next week they entertain Woolpit seconds, 1pm start.
