IT was a disappointing afternoon for Maldon and Tiptree as they fell to defeat against visiting Great Wakering Rovers.

The lost 3-2 at Park Drive in their Ryman League division north encounter after twice taking the lead.

The home side started brightly with a good and fast passing game.

Femi Akinwande went close early on with his shot just wide of the post.

He then had another chance after being put through by Nnamdi Nwachuku but hit his effort straight at the keeper.

But the Jammers pressure finally told and Darren McQueen’s 20-yard strike slipped through the hands of visiting keeper Adam Seal on 19 minutes for the opening goal.

Nwachuku then had a good shot but Seal made a great save at full stretch to stop the home side from increasing their lead.

Maldon increased the pressure on the Rovers goal and Kieran Monlouis went close with his 25-yard shot just clearing the bar.

But it was the visitors who were next on target when sloppy defending allowed Jay Nash to volley home on 30 minutes.

Just before half-time though, Maldon went back in front when a good ball over the top from Matt Lock was controlled well by Akinwande and he fired into the corner on 42 minutes.

However, after the break Rovers equalised again on 51 minutes when Tom Ranger fired through a crowd of players from 20 yards to make it 2-2.

And it got worse for Maldon ten minutes later when Ranger doubled his tally for the afternoon to give the visitors a 3-2 lead and the win.

Ogboin was on target again on 77 minutes to put Redbridge 3-1 ahead.

Heybridge Swifts picked up their first win of the new campaign with an excellent 4-2 win at Soham Town Rangers.

The visitors made a great start with Jack Barham opened the scoring after four minutes for the visitors.

But, on 21 minutes, Soham equalised through Robbie Nightingale.

However, 14 minutes later, Swifts were back in front thanks to TJ Amass.

Swifts made a bright start to the second half when they went 3-1 in front thanks to Josh Fagbohun on 47 minutes.

And Fagbohun doubled his tally nine minutes later as he put Swifts 4-1 up.

However, Nightingale pulled a goal back for the home side from the penalty spot on 59 minutes.

But it wasn’t enough as Swifts secured the three points.
