TWO Tendring Technology College students have been picked to represent England at next month’s Sainsbury’s School Games, in Manchester.

Sophie Lane and Jack Nash, who will both be in Year 12 in September, will take on the likes of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in the three-day competition.

The duo had to go through a rigorous five-day selection camp in Kettering, where they trained three times a day.

Lane and Nash will now take part in a series of friendly games against ex-internationals, as part of their pre-competition training.

They will also participate in a two-day training camp before heading to Manchester for the competition.

The School Games is set out to recreate a mini-Olympics, with an opening and closing ceremony, an athletes village and anti-doping seminars.

Lane and Nash will become part of the college’s volleyball academy, one of just six across the country, when they return next month.

They will not be the only representatives from Tendring TC at the School Games.

The college’s PE teacher Rosie Mankee will travel to the event as England Junior team manager.

And Sophie’s younger sister Amy has been selected as a reserve for the England team.
