THE summer sun shone brightly on the opening of Frinton Golf Week.

Hosted by captains Malcolm King and Tracey Taylor, the week is brimming over with events and competitions for all abilities and ages.

The competitions on Saturday were the Golf Week Medal, a scratch event, and the Philip Robinson Medal for best nett score.

Kevin Smith, who was an assistant pro at Frinton in the 1990s, won them both with 68 gross and 65 nett.

There were two exciting competitions on Sunday.

The Norman Brown Family Foursomes was played on the Havers Course over 18 holes, where team members have to be direct-line blood relatives to win.

Twenty-three teams took part.

The mother and son team of Marilyn Clarke and Luc Gagne won with a solid score of 41 stableford points.

And father and son Jason and Daniel Nicholls were second with 39 points.

The Grimwade Trophy was contested over on the Kirby Course.

The adult/junior competition was won by the father and son team of Simon and ten-year-old Harvey O’Brien won on countback.

Paul Wilkins and George Sach were awarded second place.

Monday was the Hills Prospect day, which was a designated ball stableford competition with two scores to count, one being the designated ball, played at ¾ handicap.

No strangers to the winners’ circle, the proven team of captain Malcolm King, Kevin Maleary, Gus Rusbridge and Brian Foskew won with an amazing score of 87 points.

In second place were John Rodda, Wayne Ross, Gary Chisnall and Martin Jenkins with 81 points.

The highest-scoring ladies team was made up of Barbara Thorpe, Caroline Gard, Ginny Richardson and Helen Barr with 67 points.

The singles stableford on the Kirby Course was won by Bernadette Sylvester with 41 points, way out ahead of the field.

Hills Prospect supplied the generous prizes of their wine and spirits.

Frinton GC’s ladies played in the Daily Mail Foursomes competition.

Twelve teams competed for the prestigious trophy and Jan Wright and Caroline Gard won with a score of 69.
