FRINTON Cricket Club director of cricket Pat Patel says they may consider changes to their annual cricket week after they crashed to a shock defeat at lowly Horsford.

The Ashlyns Road side slumped to a 154-run loss in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League, last weekend.

High-flying Frinton went into the Horsford game on the back of a record-breaking cricket week, where hundreds flocked to the club for the annual event.

But the club’s first-team players featured in four challenging games in the space of eight days, while fitting work commitments in between.

And Patel admits the level of their involvement in next year’s festival could be examined at the end of the season, on the back of the Horsford setback.

He said: “It’s possibly something we’ll look at for next year.

“There may have been a touch of mental fatigue kicking in and there’s a possibility we may do something differently, next year.

“We’ll look at it properly and have a debrief at the end of the season.”

Frinton had travelled to Horsford in confident mood after beating former Premier League leaders Cambridge Granta, the previous week.

But after Horsford made 212 for seven, Frinton slumped to 58 all out in less than 25 overs with only three of their players reaching double figures.

“When you play the bottom sides they are scrapping against relegation and can often be tough to play against,” said Patel.

“When they’re playing the top sides in the table, they have nothing really to lose.

“It may have been the pressures of cricket week or it may have been a touch of complacency, playing against a lower-placed side.

“But Horsford used the conditions to their advantage and they played well. This is the first time that this has happened this season, so we won’t be panicking.

“The players have got us so far this season and it’s not as though they aren’t good enough.

“It was just a case of them not performing on the day and we’ll back them.”

Frinton, who remain third in the table, will be looking for a response when they host struggling Norwich at Ashlyns Road on Saturday (11am start).

“Norwich are scrapping for their lives just like Horsford,” added Patel.

“I’m sure the players will be motivated to do well and they will be looking to bounce back.”
