TENDRING youngsters helped raise the bar at the latest annual primary schools’ tag festival at Colchester Rugby Club.

The event, which is organised at Colchester’s Mill Road ground by students of Colchester Sixth Form College as part of their coursework, continues to go from strength to strength, with more than 350 youngsters playing and Sixth Form College tutor Tim Grimsey said the standard of rugby on display this year outstripped any that he had seen before.

He said: “It was absolutely brilliant.

“The standard has gone up so much and you could see that’s on the back of what schools are doing.

“They are all playing regular rugby, which has raised the level and there are now teachers in these primary schools regularly teaching it.

“That’s superb to see.

“To have all those kids playing rugby to the standard they were is awesome.

“The day was a real success and, I have to say, my students from the Sixth Form College were excellent, as well.

“It was really well run and a fantastic effort from them.”
