FC CLACTON’S under-16 blues have completed a league and cup double.

Having already landed the League Cup, they wrapped up their championship with a 2-0 victory in the title-deciding championship play-off against Heybridge Swifts.

Both teams had finished level on points at the top of the table.

Clacton had a superior goal difference but that does not count in the Colchester and District Youth League.

A play-off was therefore needed to determine who would finish as top dogs.

The Seasiders (pictured), who led the table for most of the season, took the lead from the penalty spot.

Zach Walter was fouled but then dusted himself down before converting the spot-kick into the bottom left-hand corner. Clacton, managed by Ian Scott and coached by Des Walter, always looked in control but also had to be alert in defence.

Swifts had one particularly good chance when a goal-bound shot was excellently pushed over the bar by goalkeeper Aaron Smyth.

That gave his side a lift and their pressure paid off, following a darting run down the right by Walter.

He passed to Tyler Rose, who slotted home through the legs of the Swifts keeper for 2-0.

Clacton then held firm in the remainder of the game to complete a brilliant season.

Seasiders squad: Aaron Smyth, Sam Woods, Nick Moore, George Baker, Freddie Newman, Will Taylor, Oliver Law, Tyler Rose, George Caldwell Pearce, Zach Smith-Walter, Riley Faulkner, Louis Johnson, Charlie Welham, Sam Ryan.
