WAYNE Chapman admitted being stunned but delighted after scooping a hat-trick of FC Clacton awards.

The no-nonsense midfielder won both the players’ and supporters’ player-of-the-year prizes, at the club’s annual presentation night.

He also went home with the manager’s prize, handed out by boss David Coyle.

It capped a stunning season for the 27-year-old, who joined the Seasiders from Gas Recreation in February 2014.

And he admitted his success at the awards night came as a complete shock.

“It was absolutely fantastic, but I didn’t expect it at all,” he said.

“I honestly didn’t think I was going to win anything.

“I was just going along for a good night out.

“Then I won the first award, followed by the second and then the third and it was a complete shock.

“I was really pleased and appreciate it so much.

“All the awards are special in their own right.

“To be picked by your manager and team-mates is flattering and I was also really chuffed to win the supporters’ award (jointly with Charlie Thompson). They’ve been brilliant to me.

“I get on well with them and it was nice to reward them last season.

“They’re such a loyal bunch and they support us through thick and thin, travelling to watch us and clapping us off whether we’ve won, drawn or lost.

“I really appreciated them picking me for their award.”

Chapman, who previously played for Holland FC, says he has relished the challenge with his home-town club, after stepping up from the Essex and Suffolk Border League.

“I didn’t know what to expect but have enjoyed it so much,” said the former Tendring Technology College pupil.

“I feel my all-round game has improved and enjoy playing at this level.

“It was also really nice to help the team finish strongly and stay up last season.

“We showed promotion form in the last couple of months and hopefully now we can crack on and do much better next time.

“If we can keep our squad together and hopefully make a couple of additions, I don’t see any reason why that can’t be the case.”
