CLACTON Golf Club’s seniors played hosts to their neighbours from Frinton.

Captain Joe Middleton welcomed Frinton counterpart Terry Lawrence and his team for the return match in their 2015 contest.

After an excellent day of golf, it was announced that Clacton had won by 5½ matches to 2½.

Results: Joe Middleton and John Stuck won 5&3 against Terry Lawrence and John Oakford; John Kemp and John Fisher lost one-down to Keith Banks and Alan Dunt; Nigel Martin and Bob Seggie won 5&3 against Reg James and Terry Stapleton; vice-captain Tony Burnside and Stan Justice lost one-down to Bill Harding and Richard Lewis; Peter Cross and Doug Nichols won 2&1 against Colin Marsh and Ian Gibson; John Willson and John Wacker won 2&1 against Keith Cattermole and Hedley Missen; John Crick and Derek Woodrow halved with Roy Stevenson and John Coupland; Malcolm Pitcher and Don Dunham won one-up against Charlie Dennis and David Joshua.

Meanwhile, Clacton’s juniors played for the Yates Trophy and the winner was Wilf Elliott, with 36 points.

In second was Max Smith, with 34, and in third was Josh Bethell, with 32.

Sixty-six brave Clacton members played in the PGA National Trophy.

In this competition, the winner goes through to play at King’s Lynn Golf Club in the regional finals, with Clacton PGA professional Michael Goodwin.

The winner was Mark Armson, who returned a score of 88-17-71.

In second was Lee Harmon, with 80-8-72, and in third was Mark Hulstrom, with 80-7-73.

Ladies’ captain Julia Hewett organised her Easter charity competition and 36 ladies braved very windy conditions to battle around Clacton’s 18 holes.

The winner was Heather Bradfield, with 21 points, on countback from second-placed Angela Barratt.

In third, again on countback, with 21 points, was Jacky Bright and in fourth was Maxine Baker, with 20.

The contest raised £183 for Hewett’s charity, which is SENSE.
