BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent boss James Webster has admitted being proud of both his team and club after two eye-catching wins over Easter.

Regent won 5-1 at Redbridge on Saturday before sinking AFC Sudbury 3-0 at North Road on Monday.

The victories have driven Webster’s side to the brink of the Ryman League division one north play-offs and they now sit just two points behind fifth-placed Thurrock.

“It was a great three days for the club,” he said.

“After losing 4-0 at Harlow, we asked the lads for a reaction and definitely got one.

“We’ve won four in a row, scoring 12 and only conceding two, and the team deserve so much credit for showing that sort of character.

“I’m very proud of not just the players but the club as a whole.

“The support we had on Monday really helped and the ‘Ultras’ (Regent’s fans) didn’t stop singing and cheering.

“They really are our 12th man and I hope they realise how much everyone appreciates what they do.”

Regent followed up their victories against Maldon and Tiptree and Barkingside with a big win at Redbridge.

Jake Gordon and Ollie Canfer both netted twice and they were joined on the score-sheet by Ben Newson.

A crowd of nearly 250 then turned out for Monday’s match against Sudbury.

Jake Turner, Phil Kelly and Jordan Heath netted against the Suffolk side.

“It was a tough match on Saturday,” said Webster.

“Redbridge worked very hard and it was a real battle, but, thankfully, we came out on top thanks to two excellent goals apiece from Jake and Ollie.

“Then it was all about rest and recovery for Monday.

“I thought we were outstanding and our work-rate and desire won us the match.

“Sudbury are such a massive club locally and, as I’ve said in the past, we’re just grateful to be playing teams of their calibre week in, week out.

“To beat them and do the double over them this season is unbelievable.”

Brightlingsea, eighth in the table, now have three games left to try and cement their place in the top five.

They host struggling Cray Wanderers on Saturday before visiting Great Wakering and then hosting fellow play-off chasers Thurrock on April 25.
