LUKE Avenell is relishing being back at FC Clacton.

And the goalkeeper – proud to have played his part in four straight wins, including clean sheets in the last two – says he could not ask for more from his defensive team-mates.

Rejuvenated Clacton have given their survival chances an almighty shot in the arm, following victories against Mildenhall, Fakenham, Diss and Wivenhoe Town.

The last two – a 4-0 win at Brewers Green Lane, on Saturday, followed by Monday’s 1-0 success at home to the Dragons – made it a dream Easter.

After playing a star role, Avenell said: “To have got ourselves into this position is fantastic.

“Every point we get is massive, especially in a local derby like Monday.

“We’ve deserved everything that’s happened to us in the last few weeks and, on a personal note, I couldn’t ask anything more from the lads playing in front of me.

“They communicate, give praise when it’s due and if we have to dig each other out sometimes we all know it’s not personal.

“It’s just a case of being honest with each other and saying what’s needed to get through each game.

“As I say, I couldn’t ask for a better group of defenders to play behind.

“That makes it more enjoyable and gets results, so it’s working.”
