CLACTON have retained their Easter Winter League crown.

They pulled off a vital 12-6 victory at main rivals Basildon.

And with their opponents also slipping up in another match, it means the silverware is heading back to Vista Road.

Clacton knew only a win would do in their crucial match against Basildon.

Having already lost twice this season, they had to win and hope other results went their way.

Right from the first whistle, Clacton dominated.

With Robert Eastman and Neil Coles on particularly good form, Basildon were not able to get into the match and, thanks to a fine overall team performance, Clacton came out 12-6 winners.

With Basildon also tripping up against other opponents, it was enough to secure the title for another year.

The Summer League starts up this month and, if they are to retain the Essex and Eastern League crowns, Seasiders captain James Fry knows his side cannot afford to lose points as they did over the winter.
