A RALLYING call is being issued by FC Clacton for people of the town to leave their Easter eggs and get behind their local team on a potentially momentous day for the club.

The Seasiders will face rivals Wivenhoe Town at the Rush Green Bowl on Monday (kick-off 3pm) for a fixture that could possibly decide who will be relegated from the Thurlow Nunn League premier division.

And Clacton would love a big partisan home crowd cheering them on.

Co-owner Stephen Andrews told the Gazette: “From time to time, we put out rallying calls for the good people of Clacton to support their local club and attend our games, especially for important games and other times when we really need it – Easter Monday is such a day!

“This is arguably our biggest game of the season, so we really do need as many people there as possible. It looks like three teams will be relegated at the end of this season and we currently sit third from bottom.

“Results this coming Saturday could change things but, after winning our last two games, the likliehood is that a win against Wivenhoe at home on Monday will mean we leapfrog them and move out of the relegation places. With just four games left, this is a crucial time of the season and we are desperate to avoid relegation to division one.

“So we are appealing for the football-loving folk of Clacton to get the shopping out of the way on Saturday, to spend Sunday seeing family and eating chocolate and join us on Monday afternoon.”
