CLACTON 1-0 THURROCK East Men's League division three SE CLACTON'S hockey aces inflicted a first defeat of the season on top-of-the-table Thurrock, with a determined and tenacious display.

The Seasiders only needed one chance in the game and were then able to sit back and soak up Thurrock's possession, without allowing the visitors any chances.

Clacton keeper Mike Key touched the ball just three times and made one crucial save down to his right to secure the victory.

Man-of-the-match Gavin Underhay was in inspired form, closing down the visitors' many short corners and stopping them getting a single shot on target.

Peter Wright was a commanding figure at the back, organising the solid wall of John Hambrook, Trevor Sumption, Jamie Roberts, Daniel Hunn and Tom Blake, while Sam Hodge ran tirelessly for the whole game - harassing the visitors and not giving them a moment's piece.
