WALTON Indoor Bowls Club had mixed fortunes in their latest two matches.

They visited Harwich and pulled off victory, by 74 shots to 47.

However, they were on the receiving end and a clear second-best when Thorpe won 81-53 at the Columbine Centre.

In the match at Harwich, three of the rinks were closely fought and it needed a big win from the trio of Linda Goodchild, John Rayner and Roy Norton to put the issue beyond doubt, winning by the massive margin of 28-4.

Results (Walton first): E Boddy, P Jenkin, K Twinn 19-13; R Wood, M Couchman, J Perry 12-17; T Couperthwaite, A Rawling, L Boddy 15-13; L Goodchild, J Rayner, R Norton 28-4.

Rayner proved a winner again when Thorpe showed they meant business, sending a strong team for Saturday’s match.

Although they are an outdoor club, most of their players spend the winter playing indoors at Clacton.

Walton, not at their best, managed to win only one of the four rinks, with the quartet of Rayner, Marion Smith, Lou Boddy and Barbara Flaxman coming through 22-11.

Results (Walton first): R Wood, A Cargill, R Leaning, R Norton 12-20; J Rayner, M Smith, L Boddy, B Flaxman 22-11; L Boxall, A Rawling, B Webb, F Gibson 11-26; L Todd, A Smith, E Boddy, B Harding 8-24.
