RYAN Lowton scored his first goal for FC Clacton – then announced he was leaving the club and moving back home to Devon.

The centre-half was on target in Tuesday’s 3-1 Thurlow Nunn League defeat at home to Stanway Rovers.

However, he confirmed after the game that it would be his last appearance as he is heading back to Plymouth.

“I made the decision earlier this week,” said the defender, a cousin of Aston Villa’s Matt Lowton.

“I’m missing home so I’m going to move back to Devon.

“I’m just glad I signed off with a goal and solid performance.

“It was nice to score and it was no less than we deserved, after the disappointment of going behind.

“Heads might have dropped after conceding inside five minutes, but that wasn’t the case at all and my goal gave us extra energy and belief.

“It lifted us and we felt we should have gone on to win the game.”
